When “You Can Do Anything” Feels Like Too Much
We live in a world that tells us “you can do anything you want with your life.”
It sounds freeing. It should take the pressure off. But instead, it does the opposite. It’s overwhelming. It makes you feel like you’re constantly falling short.
What about those of us who aren’t academic? Who never thrived in classrooms or under exam hall lights. What about those of us whose brilliance doesn’t come with grades neatly printed on a piece of paper?
Where do we go? How do we measure success when the world keeps moving the goalposts?
I’m starting to think success doesn’t have to mean the best title, the biggest house, or the most polished LinkedIn profile. Maybe it’s about building a life that feels right in your bones. A life where you show up for the people you love, where you create something that matters to you even if it never makes the “highlight reel.”
Maybe the point isn’t to do anything. Maybe it’s to do something—something that’s yours, something you can be proud of. And maybe that’s enough.
